About flock-follies
Our bird feeders began life on Jayne Tarasun’s kitchen table in Gweek, Cornwall in January 2010.
"I designed them after observing that the little birds have a hard time of it on the traditional bird table, the big birds coming in first, dominating the show, and taking all the best bits. The little guys get to come in at the end, picking up the bits the big guys don’t want. Being a fair minded kind of girl, I set out to design an eating venue especially for the little guys, bringing a little finesse into their lunch time experience."
After making them by hand for 8 months, a new plan had to be hatched for production, as Sainsbury’s ready meals filled the fridge and home cooking became a distant memory.
After a summer of acrylic wars in the kitchen and we began to get wholesale requests from retailers, it became obvious we needed a mass produced product. Being passionate about keeping manufacturing in the UK, I was determined to keep production as local as possible. I eventually found a manufacturer and after some intensive design meetings and final tweaking, the new design was finished in May 2011. It took some doing and the sleepless nights were all worth it, and we are proud of our great product and we are very proud of our Cornish origin.
Previously a fine art printmaker ( www.jaynetarasun.com ), then designer of contemporary follies, ( www.folly-smith.com ), Jayne Tarasun is now focusing her energy on building a brand around funky garden related products, breathing new life and light into the genre. Flock-follies bird feeders are the first in a collection of fun, funky and functional products,if it doesn’t fit the 3F’s criteria, we don’t do it.
Our bird feeders were featured in a show garden at Chelsea flower show in May 2011 and shortlisted for the Gift of the Year 2012.
